PORT OF LATCHI EXPANDS AND AIMS TO BE GREEN

 Filenews 22 April 2023

The expansion of the port of Latchi was decided by the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Ports Authority, its President Antonis Stylianou said on Saturday, noting at the same time that the most important part of this expansion is the fact that in the context of the green transition they fully adopted the development of a model green port.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Fish Festival in Polis Chrysochous, Stylianou said that this expansion essentially triples the port basin.

He also explained that by "green port" he means that it will operate exclusively through renewable energy sources, energy that is clean for the environment fully in line with the EU's goals in relation to reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

He also pointed out that they chose this port of Latchi to highlight precisely the importance of a border port throughout the eastern Mediterranean to become the first such port in the EU fully fulfilling the conditions for the green transition. He said, "It's exactly our goal."

He also added that only on Friday the contract for the study they have planned was signed and that they expect the completion of the timetable.

He expressed the certainty that in the next few years people will enjoy the Fish Festival in this beautiful place of Cyprus, in a fully green port, fully respecting the environment and the needs of future generations.
