The decision of the Cyprus Police was the negative response to the request of the Hellenic Football Federation for the holding of the Greek Cup final at GSP Stadium.
As stated by the Police Spokesperson Christos Andreou, the decision taken clearly concerned the issue of the danger posed by the arrival in Cyprus of the teams' fans.
As he said, the issue was of great concern to the Cyprus Police, whose Department deals with issues of conducting matches and hooliganism, they contacted the corresponding Department of the Hellenic Police. Based on the data and information that the Police had from the Greek authorities, it was considered that the holding of the final in Cyprus involves risks for the maintenance of order and the safety of citizens.
As mentioned, the issue was not only the maintenance of order inside the GSP Stadium at the time of the final, but the overall safety both outside the stadium before and after the match and generally during the stay of the fans of the Greek teams in Cyprus.
Mr. Andreou clarified that the decision was taken exclusively by the Police.
This was also assured by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Anna Koukkidi-Prokopiou, who clarified that it is an exclusive matter for the Police.
