Angry are the residents of the area in which the hotel is located, in the tourist area of Tombs of the Kings, where the facility for migrant children operates. As they said in the afternoon at a protest event they organized, their patience ran out.
The phenomena of violence, as they denounce, are daily with the youths in the camp being completely uncontrollable, despite the constant presence of a police force in the area. Many times they denounce walking around completely naked. A single police officer, however, cannot prevent them from leaving the camp whenever they want, nor can it prevent the daily incidents and quarrels between them. Shouting, fighting, cursing is a daily occurrence, as they denounce, with residents of the area unable to rest even during the night.
Residents cite reports that the facility is expanding in order to transfer more unaccompanied minors. The event was also attended by the mayor of Pafos, Phaedon Phaedonos, who noted that the situation should not continue and this is not populism.
It is inconceivable, he concluded, that the very serious denunciations of the residents happen every day and that the state is indifferent.
