FOUR DOGS DEAD IN PENTAKOMO, LIMASSOL

Filenews 27 April 2023 - by  Ioanna Mantzipia

The Community Authority of Pentakomo of the Limassol district is on alert after the killing of four dogs by poison placed in public areas of the community. The issue has taken on huge dimensions with the president of the community, Pambos Charalambous having mobilized the Police of Animals, Animal Welfare Organizations and the Party of Animals in order to identify the perpetrators of the crime. There has been a lot of disruption in the community since last Saturday with pet owners being asked to be extra careful about their animals.

At the same time, the Community Authority informed all residents to take care of young children as there is a risk of poisoning if they touch objects that have flakes. As Mr. Charalambous said in statements to "F", the poisons were placed on public roads, within the residential area. From the investigations so far by the Community Authority, it appears that the perpetrators of this heinous act have placed meat where they have put lannet. Currently, four dogs, two of which are missing, are dead after poisoning. "I am in contact with the Animal Party and the Veterinary Services.

Since Saturday we have handed over to the Animal Police a dead dog for necropsy in order to verify the poison it ate," he noted. Mr. Charalambous said that another dog was poisoned on Wednesday (25/4), but a veterinarian managed to save it thanks to its immediate transfer from its owner to a veterinary clinic. The residents of the community are upset as many are animal lovers and own dogs. It is indicative that recently a resident has adopted four dogs that he took from a shelter. The Community Council sent a message to the residents urging them to closely monitor their pets.

For their part, the Animal Welfare Organizations, which were under the auspices of the Community Council, allocate the amount of €2,000 in order to collect information to identify the perpetrators. "Not only animals are at risk, but also small children who may play in public places and possibly touch objects that have poison," the president of the community said.
