The Medical and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health recall the basic measures to prevent adverse effects when there is an increased concentration of dust in the air, according to the emergency forecasts of the Meteorological Service:
GENERAL MEASURES FOR THE POPULATION
Employers and employees should follow the instructions of the Department of Labour Inspection as follows:
- Avoid activities and physical exercise in open spaces.
- Staying in open spaces should be kept to a minimum.
- Use the protective mask for the mouth and nose, with a filter that retains dust or alternatively a wet wipe.
- It should be noted that, in addition to the many and serious health effects of smoking, it also aggravates the adverse effect of dust. It is recommended to avoid smoking.
- When there is a symptomatology such as cough (dry or productive with expectoration - phlegm), dyspnea (difficulty breathing), irritation and / or runny nose (increased fluids) in the nose - irritation and / or increased tears from the eyes, it is recommended to contact or visit the attending physician or the Accident and Emergency Departments (TAEP)
High risk groups
- People with Respiratory Problems and Heart Disease
- Kidney patients
- People with Immunodeficiencies
- Children and People over 65 Years Old
High-risk groups are more likely to experience symptoms due to increased dust in the air. In these groups, the symptomatology can develop more often and more intensely. Also, there is a possibility for worsening of the symptomatology due to their condition.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR GLASS PERSONS 1. Contact and visit the attending physician or the Accident and Emergency Departments when:
I. There is or worsening symptoms such as cough (dry or productive with expectoration - phlegm), dyspnea (difficulty breathing), irritation and / or runny nose (increased fluids) in the nose - irritation and / or increased tears from the eyes.
II. They need clarification for any doubts and adjustments to their medication.
2. Avoid unnecessary travel and limit their stay in areas where there is an increased concentration of dust in the ambient air. Particular care is needed when there is a further burden with high temperature and humidity.
3. Use a protective mask in cases where a short stay outdoors is needed.
4, Avoid physical exertion in open space.
5. They remain in well-ventilated and air-conditioned areas.
