A new case of theft of a car, which was left parked with the keys in the ignition of the engine, is being investigated by the Police. The theft case is being investigated by the Lakatamia Police Station.

According to the complaint filed by the owner of the car, the car, worth 2,000 euros, was stolen around 7.15 last night, while it was parked outside a residence, in the area of Lakatamia. The vehicle had been left at the scene, with the keys in the ignition of the engine.

The Police, in order to prevent similar incidents of theft, addresses recommendations to the public, owners and responsible drivers of vehicles, such as parking their vehicle, even in case of a short stop, to remove the keys, to close the windows completely, and to lock the vehicle.

A case of drug importation and possession of drugs with intent to supply another person, money laundering and illegal possession of a firearm is being investigated by the Police, who proceeded to arrest a 35-year-old man.

The investigation of the case began after information about a parcel that was located at the premises of a courier company, where it had been transported from abroad and in which there was a quantity of powder with a gross weight of approximately 315 grams, believed to be a drug substance.

The parcel was delivered at noon on Tuesday, to the recipient's address. The 35-year-old suspect presented himself as his addressee. Upon receipt of the parcel by the 35-year-old, members of the YKAN proceeded to check it, with the 35-year-old trying to flee on foot, after pushing one of the police officers. He was immediately stopped at the scene and arrested for flagrant offences.

Examinations and searches followed in the apartment and residential complex where the 35-year-old resides, where the members of the YKAN found inside the residence, a quantity of cannabis with a gross weight of approximately 80 grams, the amount of money of  €2,630, the origin of which is being investigated, and a shotgun, the registered owner of which is a relative of the 35-year-old. In the postal mail delivery area of the apartment complex, members of the Police found a parcel containing white powder, with a gross weight of about 100 grams, which is also believed to be a narcotic substance.

Inside the 35-year-old's residence, searches also found a precision scale with traces of cannabis, a half-smoked handmade cigarette with traces of cannabis, and a military cartridge.

Search operations at shops in Nicosia, where products of controlled pharmaceutical and narcotic substances were found and seized, were carried out by members of the Police, in cooperation with officials of the Ministry of Health.

The coordinated search operations were carried out on Monday and Tuesday, 03-04 April, in two stores in the areas of Strovolos and Nicosia, pursuant to judicial search warrants, which had been obtained on the basis of evidence of illegal trade in controlled pharmaceutical products for which there is no marketing authorisation. Members of the Intellectual Property Theft and Illegal Betting Branch, the Cybercrime Subdivision, the Police Headquarters, and officers of the Pharmaceutical and Health Services of the Ministry of Health participated in the investigations.

At the first store, 43 packages of products believed to contain cannabidiol – CBD, and 55 packages of products believed to contain tetrahydrocannabinol – THC were found and seized for further examination. The 43 packages of CBD products were handed over to the local Strovolos Police Station for investigation of offences related to the legislation on human use medicines, while four of the packages of products with THC were handed over to the YKAN for investigation of a case concerning narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The remaining 51 packages of THC products were confiscated by Health Service officials for testing under their responsibilities.

A further 40 packages of products believed to contain cannabidiol – CBD, as well as another 19 packages of products believed to contain tetrahydrocannabinol – THC, were found in the second store and also seized for testing purposes.

The 40 packages of CBD products were handed over to the local Police Station of Omorfita for investigation of offences related to the legislation on medicinal products for human use, while twelve of the packages of products with THC were handed over to the YKAN for investigation of a case concerning drugs and psychotropic substances.

The remaining seven packages of THC were confiscated by Health Service officials for testing as part of their responsibilities.

It is recalled that an announcement by the Pharmaceutical Services, in June, 2022, states that products containing cannabidiol – CBD are classified as pharmaceutical products and their marketing requires the issuance of a marketing authorization. Any commercial activity, involving wholesale distribution and sale to the public, without the required licenses, is prohibited.

Members of the Paphos Traffic Police, at around 11.45 last night, stopped for inspection a moped in which there were no headlights and the driver was not wearing a protective helmet.

Tests found that the scooter had folding registration plates in such a way as to hide the registration numbers and the driver was 16 years old. The 16-year-old was driving without being covered by a driver's license and safety certificate, while the vehicle was stationary, without wearing a protective helmet. At the same time, a change of colour was detected without informing the superintendent of motor vehicles, as well as other traffic offenses.

The 16-year-old is expected to be called to the Paphos Traffic Police with his parents for further action.

The Indian, who supplied drugs, specifically quantities of methamphetamine, to four minors was sentenced on Tuesday (4/28) to the longest sentence of eight years. Victims of the defendant's criminal actions and two underage sisters, whom he had approached in order to become addicted and become his associates in drug trafficking to other minors.

The defendant, by his own admission, was convicted on 14 counts of unlawful possession of a class A controlled drug and unlawful supply to other persons. The Permanent Assize Court of Limassol imposed on him several concurrent sentences, the longest being that of eight years. According to the indictment, on 13 separate occasions he supplied methamphetamine of an unknown amount to four minors aged 14, 12, 15 and 16 between the dates of 1/1/2022 and March 7 of the same year.

It is recalled that the tangle of the case began to unravel when on 3/4/22 a 15-year-old girl had gone to the offices of YKAN Limassol, who asked for the help of the Police to join a drug rehabilitation program, as she had been using crystal in recent months. The next day, a 12-year-old sister of the 15-year-old, who had also used methamphetamine, was transferred to Limassol Hospital.

The 28-year-old defendant, according to the Assize Court's decision, appears to have sought acquaintances with minors and his networking in their circles, with the ultimate goal of supplying drugs in exchange for a quantity of methamphetamine.

As noted in the judgment, the offences he committed are so serious that they justify depriving him of his liberty for a long time. To mitigate the sentence, the defendant's clean criminal record, his admission and his remorse were taken.
