The Agios Stylianos High School in Strovolos was targeted, as delinquent elements acting during the night, burned down the hall of the teachers' association, in which they had "erupted" again. It is recalled that the school was burned at dawn on Easter, as well as the High School of Agios Vasilios, which recorded great damage.
Specifically, yesterday morning the Gymnasium of Agios Stylianos was attacked again by night walkers, who after causing damage, set fire to the hall. The new incident of delinquency concerns the competent bodies, which are trying to find effective ways to protect school units.
OELMEK also condemned the arson of the school, pointing out that the repeated incidents of vandalism and destruction in schools, outside their opening hours, demonstrate in the clearest way the inadequacy of measures to protect school infrastructure.
"We call on the State and all those responsible to finally take the necessary measures to protect schools to prevent the recurrence of such unacceptable phenomena. For this reason, we contacted the Minister of Education, asking for substantial measures to be implemented immediately, not only in the schools where the recent incidents occurred, but in general."
"We stress, in every direction, that the State and society as a whole cannot remain spectators of the destruction of school properties, which are paid for by taxpayers and for the upgrading of which the Directorates and teachers of schools constantly strive and care, having in many cases the assistance of the relevant Parents and Guardians Associations", OELMEK said in a statement.
