With serious injuries to the body and head, a 53-year-old man is being treated at Limassol General Hospital, who was involved in a traffic collision on a road in Limassol last night, where he was driving his car. The circumstances under which the traffic collision occurred are being investigated by the Police.

According to the data so far, while at around 21:30 last night, the 53-year-old was driving a car on Grigori Afxentiou Street, in Pyrgos, Limassol, in the direction from Pyrgos to Limassol, under circumstances that are being investigated, he collided with a car driven by a 30-year-old woman, with a 29-year-old man as a passenger, in the direction from Limassol to Pyrgos.

Members of the Police rushed to the scene of the collision for examinations, while the three occupants of the two vehicles were transported by ambulances to Limassol General Hospital. Medical tests revealed that the 53-year-old suffered severe injuries to his body, head and one arm. He was detained for treatment at the General Hospital. As a precaution, the 30-year-old was also detained at Limassol General Hospital for observation, while the 29-year-old was discharged after receiving first aid.

As part of the investigation into the traffic collision, the two drivers were given a preliminary driving test under the influence of alcohol with zero indication for the 30-year-old and with a reading of 88μg%ml instead of up to 22μg%ml for the 53-year-old. For the purposes of a final breathalyzer test, blood samples were taken from the 53-year-old with the assistance of medical staff and are expected to undergo laboratory tests.

The circumstances under which the traffic collision occurred are being investigated by the Moni Police Station.

Members of the Limassol YKAN handcuffed two persons yesterday, as after a search conducted by the police on the two men aged 32 and 30, 32 nylon packages containing heroin with a total gross weight of approximately 13.3 grams and the amount of 9 euros were found in the possession of the 475-year-old and confiscated.

At the same time, further examinations revealed that the 30-year-old is staying illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

Subsequently, a court warrant searched a room where the two persons were staying, where six used syringes, an electronic scale with traces of heroin and a nylon piece of heroin weighing approximately 5.6 grams were located and seized.

The two persons were arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations. The YKAN continues the examinations.

A total of 400 firecrackers were found in the possession of two persons aged 18 and 21, who were stopped yesterday for inspection by members of the Larnaca Police.

Specifically, members of the Larnaca Police Authority, at around 6.10 yesterday afternoon, stopped for inspection the two young people, who were traveling by car, in an area in the district of Larnaka. During the search, ten boxes containing 40 firecrackers each were found inside the vehicle and confiscated as evidence.

The two persons were taken to the local Police Station, where they were charged in writing.

The Oroklini Police Station is investigating.

A new case of driving a vehicle by a minor, 16 years old, is being investigated by the Police. The 16-year-old was spotted by members of the Police, driving a car, on a road in the district of Paphos, at noon Sunday.

Specifically, at around 1.45 p.m. on Sunday, members of Team "Z" of the Pafos Traffic Police Department, who were conducting a traffic check in an area of the Pafos district, stopped a car, which was apparently driven by a 16-year-old.

It was found that the registered owner of the vehicle is the father of the young man, while the circumstances under which the 16-year-old acquired possession of the vehicle are being investigated.

The exams continue at the Stroumbi Police Station.

Two young men, aged 19 and 21 from a village in the Larnaca district, allegedly bought 400 firecrackers from a shop in Pyla and transported them to the free areas, but were noticed by members of the Larnaca OPE.

According to Haris Hadjigiasemis, spokesperson of the Larnaka Police Directorate, in the context of the Police's campaign for the prevention and importation of firecrackers through the occupied areas, around six in the afternoon on Sunday, members of the Larnaka Crime Prevention Unit, intercepted a vehicle in which two youths were travelling.

"From the investigations and examinations of the Police, it was found that the two youths were aged 19 and 21 from a village in the Larnaka district and 400 firecrackers were found in their possession," he said.

The youths, he added, "reported to the police that they bought the firecrackers from a shop in Pyla. The youths were arrested and taken to the Oroklini Police Station where they will be charged in writing and released."

A new case of theft of a car, which was left parked with the keys in the ignition of the engine, is being investigated by the Police. The theft case is being investigated by the ICF of Limassol.

According to the complaint submitted to the police, the car, worth 5,000 euros, was stolen around 3.50 pm on Sunday, while parked outside an apartment building in Limassol. The vehicle had been left by its driver at the scene, with the keys in the ignition of the engine.

The Police, in order to prevent similar incidents of theft, addresses recommendations to the public, owners and responsible drivers of vehicles, such as parking their vehicle, even in case of a short stop, to remove the keys, to close the windows completely, and to lock the vehicle.

It is worth noting that failure to take protective security measures and safekeeping the keys and the vehicle itself constitutes an offence, especially in the case where, as a result of the negligent custody of the vehicle, another person illegally acquires possession and illegally drives the vehicle.

A case of burglary and theft from a residence is being investigated by the ICF of Pafos, while a 41-year-old man is being sought as a suspect.

According to the Spokesperson of the Pafos Police Authority and Head of the Pafos ICF, Michalis Nicolaou, on April 8, a 33-year-old man reported that the residence of a friend abroad had been burglarized and that a bag and other valuables had allegedly been stolen from it.

Further examinations carried out in the area secured testimony against a specific person, aged 41, who is known to the police, Nicolaou said, with the suspect being sought.

Police found Molotov cocktails and youths pushing a trolley with gas cylinders intended to explode on the night of the resurrection.

Both of these cases were found in other provinces. In Paphos, police are intensifying their campaign during Holy Week with the aim of identifying both factory and homemade firecrackers that could endanger the lives of young people themselves and unsuspecting citizens.    

Paphos Police Director Nikos Tsapis appealed mainly to young people to avoid using these dangerous objects but also to their parents to be particularly suspicious and monitor their children's movements.

Duty-free tobacco products were found and confiscated by members of the Police in Paphos, following a search of the residence and warehouse of a 54-year-old man. The 54-year-old was issued by officers of the Department of Customs and Excise with an out-of-court notice for the payment of a sum of money amounting to €3,000, for their illegal possession.

Specifically, following a search conducted yesterday afternoon by members of the Pafos ICF, in the 54-year-old's apartment, as well as in his storage space, in the apartment building where he lives, a total of 33 boxes of cigarettes, six boxes of heated cigarettes, and another 250 grams of manufactured tobacco, all of various brands, were found.

After informing the Department of Customs and Excise, its officers carried out an inspection and it was found that the tobacco products found are duty-free. These were received by the officers of the Customs and Excise Department, who issued the 54-year-old with an out-of-court notice for the payment of a sum of money amounting to  €3,000.
