Concerned citizens in the Nicosia suburb of Ayios Dhometios notified authorities this afternoon as a naked man, a third country national, was loitering in the streets, waving a hatchet in a threatening manner.
A special response police unit rushed to the scene, gave chase in the side streets and eventually arrested the unknown individual.
The Ayios Dhometios police precinct is investigating the incident.

A Swedish woman living in Cyprus has admitted setting fire to a Limassol pub owned by a 61 year old, over personal differences.
She torched the establishment early this morning and following calls from residents of the area, the fire service put out the blaze before it spread to nearby buildings.
Flames damaged the entrance to the business and a covered front area, while the interior walls were blackened by smoke.
Following eyewitness accounts, authorities were led to the 53 year old woman, who was arrested and admitted guilt, citing personal differences with the owner.
She will be remanded in custody tomorrow.

Almost twenty grams of cannabis were found at the residence of a 26-year-old Greek Cypriot by members of the Paphos YKAN.
Members of the force had information that the 26-year-old was trafficking drugs to other users.
They searched his residence but did not apparently find the quantities they expected to find.
