A meeting on preventive measures against the use of firecrackers and the lighting of "lambratzia" was held on Wednesday in Paphos, at the initiative of the Pafos Police Directorate in view of Easter.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Municipalities of Pafos and Geroskipou, the community councils of the peri-urban area, as well as officers of the Fire Service.
In the context of the meeting, said the spokesman of the Pafos Police Directorate, Michalis Nicolaou, it was decided that all actors will cooperate in the field of intelligence. The contribution of communities to the work of the Police was also requested in cases where objects such as wood need to be moved to dangerous places.
"Other similar meetings will follow until Easter," he said, "since the dimensions that the issue has taken with the uncontrolled placement of wood, tires and other flammable and dangerous materials in the "lambratzies" prepared by young people in their parishes are great.
Mr. Nicolaou concluded that special emphasis will be given to areas of the Pafos district, where there is a greater problem.
