BODY OF TOURIST FOUND AT AYIA NAPA

The body of a man found and recovered on Saturday night in Ayia Napa is that of a 49 year old tourist. The 49-year-old, who was alone on holiday in Cyprus, tried to take a photo on the bridge of lovers in the area, as a result of which he slipped and fell from a height of 10 metres onto the rocks.

According to the police, around 18:30 on Saturday afternoon, a report was received about the body of a man on the rocks under the bridge of lovers in Ayia Napa.

Immediately, members of the Ayia Napa Police Station, the Famagusta ICF, the Fire Brigade and the EMAK rushed to the scene in order to retrieve the body.

In statements by the spokesman of the Famagusta Police Directorate, Steve Theodoulou, the 49-year-old was on the bridge trying to take photos when, under circumstances that are being investigated, he seems to have lost his balance and fell into the gap about ten metres deep.

The man's body, after being recovered, was transferred to Famagusta General Hospital, where doctors on duty pronounced him dead.

The exact cause of his death will be revealed by the legal autopsy.
