At the barricade on Ledra Street in Nicosia, the two wanted for the theft of a large amount of money from a group of 350 tourists were located and arrested by members of the Police last night. The two suspects, aged 44 and 34, were taken into custody.
The case under investigation concerns the theft of a sum of money from a hotel room in Larnaca, where a 35-year-old man was staying. According to the 35-year-old's complaint, the theft of the sum of money, amounting to €88,400, was committed between Wednesday and Thursday, 05-06 April.
The theft of the money was suspected against the two suspects, who were on the run. Their details and photographs were released by the police in order to gather information that could lead to their location.
At around 9.30pm on Friday, the two wanted suspects went to the barricade of Ledra Street, in Nicosia, to cross into the occupied areas of the Republic. In a check submitted by members of the Police serving at the Ledra barricade, it was found that they were the two wanted suspects, as a result of which they were arrested, pursuant to the court warrants issued against them.
In investigations following their arrest, the 34-year-old was found in possession of a sum of €24,690, while in the possession of the 44-year-old an amount of money of €11,300 was found. Under questioning, the two suspects allegedly admitted to stealing a sum of money amounting to €38,500.
