Advice from the Police to prevent car theft incidents
A new case of theft of a car, worth €60,000, which was left parked with the keys in the ignition, is being investigated by the Police. The case of theft is being investigated by the TAE of Limassol.
According to the complaint submitted to the Police by the owner of the car, the vehicle was stolen last night, while it was parked in the parking lot of his residence, in Limassol. The car had been left parked at the spot around 9:00 last night, with the keys in the ignition. Around 7.45 this morning it was discovered that it had been stolen.
The Police, for the purpose of preventing similar incidents of theft, addresses recommendations to the public, owners and responsible drivers of vehicles, such as when parking their vehicle, even in case of a few minutes stop, to remove the keys, close the windows completely, and the vehicle is locked.
Indicatively, below is a series of protective measures that vehicle owners and drivers are urged to take:
-We don't leave our car running and never leave the keys in the ignition or in the car. Even if we are going to be away even for a very short time for a visit to a store, office or other place, we lock our car and have the keys in our possession
-We always lock the doors and roll up the windows all the way, even if our car is parked in front of our house or somewhere else we consider safe
-We do not leave our car keys exposed in prominent places or in places that any third party can access in our home, workplace or any other place we visit
-We always park our car in places where there is enough street lighting and preferably in supervised car parks. Dark or secluded places make it easier for thieves
-Finally, it is recommended to install an anti-theft alarm system in our car
