On May 9, the defendant is expected to respond to the charges he faces for premeditated murder in the murder case of 58-year-old Ioannis Polycarpos, in Paphos.
The 45-year-old appeared on Friday before the Permanent Assize Court sitting in Paphos, where he was charged.
The court set May 5 as the date the 45-year-old is expected to answer whether or not to admit to the charges he faces, and ordered that the 45-year-old remain in custody.
According to the history of the case, Polycarpou was fatally injured when he was swept away on his motorcycle by a vehicle that the 45-year-old said was driving. The fatal road collision occurred in the early hours of January 21, on the Avenue of the Tombs of the Kings and the driver fled the scene.
The 58-year-old was injured in the collision and taken by ambulance to Paphos General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. During the investigation of the road collision, testimony emerged against the 45-year-old driver of the vehicle.
Further examinations showed, according to police, that a short time earlier, the victim and the alleged perpetrator had been arguing in a pub. The next morning, the 45-year-old was spotted by members of the Paphos ICF driving his car and was stopped.
