During the last meeting of the House Standing Committee on Education and Culture, the issue of the Public School of Administration, Tourism, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship of the CUT in Paphos was discussed.
The rectorate authorities of the University informed the members of the Parliamentary Committee that they have in their plans the creation of an undergraduate program for tourist guides. Speaking on the issue, the vice-chairman of the Education Committee of the Parliament, Chrysanthos Savvides, stressed that this decision is particularly pleasing to everyone, as it will upgrade the tourism industry of both Paphos and the whole of Cyprus.
"It is worth mentioning that the opening of the CUT in Paphos, as we were assured, is expected to start next September," he said. "In addition, reference was made to the burning issue concerning the need to build student dormitories that will alleviate the housing problem of poor and destitute students, due to high rents."
On the issue, Mr. Savvidis clarified, he raised the possibility of using a hotel unit for the accommodation of students, but received a negative response, due to the fact that there is no available hotel.
"In conclusion, the need to build student dormitories is considered imperative, as it will help several student families," he concluded.
