DIKO MP and member of the House Standing Committee on Transport, Chrysanthos Savvides, held a meeting today with the new Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafiadis.
During the meeting, various issues related to the responsibilities of the Ministry of Transport and of concern to the district of Pafos were discussed. Specifically, the issues concern the Paphos-Geroskipou Airport Road, the Tombs of the Kings-Coral Bay Road, the progress of the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road works, public transport and the creation of an overpass on Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue.
Regarding the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road, the Minister mentioned that the project is progressing normally and the second part of the road from Stroumpi to Polis Chrysochous is at the stage of environmental study. For the Paphos-Geroskipou airport road, he said he expects a response from the environmental authority and depending on its outcome, the project will also go ahead. For the Tombs of the Kings road to Coral Bay, Mr. Vafiadis promised to proceed with the process so that the project could begin as soon as possible.
Regarding the creation of an overpass on Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue, Mr. Vafiadis stressed that this project is of paramount importance as it concerns the safety of students and informed Mr. Savvidis that he will contact the Ministry of Interior to track it as soon as possible.
In addition, regarding public transport, the Minister mentioned that it is only a matter of months before the OSYPA fleet is upgraded.
Mr. Savvidis mentioned to the Minister an additional issue concerning the community of Mesa Chorio and specifically the rubble that is placed in fertile fields of the inhabitants resulting in the destruction of property. The Minister, for his part, promised that an effort will be made to find other sites so as not to create a problem for the properties of the residents of the area.
The MP of the Democratic Party and the Minister of Transport decided to be in an open line of communication for the promotion and resolution of issues that concern our city and province and are related to the work of the Ministry.
