DRIVER CAUSED A STRING OF ACCIDENTS - TAKEN TO ATHALASSA HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT

He was driving his car on busy Paphos roads, literally causing one car accident behind the other. After six injuries to other unsuspecting drivers and vehicle occupants, the 23-year-old driver who caused them, aroused the suspicions of the authorities who finally judged that he needed psychiatric monitoring and was taken to the Athalassa Hospital for treatment.

The truly unprecedented case took place on Sunday at the eastern entrance of Paphos. A 23-year-old man was driving his car on Dimokratias Avenue at noon, in the direction of Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue. According to the Police, at one point on the road and under circumstances that are being investigated, the 23-year-old drove his vehicle into the car in front  in which two people were riding, hitting it, while immediately after that he overtook the vehicle ahead, changed lane and collided with another vehicle, which was driven by a 54-year-old woman from Paphos with her husband and her minor grandson as passenger, aged three years.

All occupants of the vehicles were injured in the car accident and were transported by ambulance to Paphos Hospital. According to the on-duty doctor they did not suffer any serious injury and after first aid was provided they were dismissed.

The Traffic Police began examinations for these unusual events, while the 23-year-old's vehicle was transferred to the Paphos Traffic Police for safekeeping. During the process that followed, according to the Police, the 23-year-old exhibited unacceptable and bizarre behaviour and was arrested for a self-inflicted offense.

According to the Psychiatric Hospitalization Law, he was examined by a psychiatrist, a decree of compulsory hospitalization was issued and he was transferred to the Athalassa Hospital for hospitalization.
