Based on the results of the Labour Force Survey for the 4th quarter of 2022, the labour force amounted to 489,650 people or 65,5% of the population (men 71,0%, women 60,4%) compared to 473,537 people (64,5%) in the corresponding quarter of 2021 (Table 1). The number of employed persons was 455,727 persons and the employment rate 61,0% (men 66,8%, women 55,6%) compared to 443,937 persons (60,5%) in the corresponding quarter of 2021. The number of unemployed stood at 33,922 people and the unemployment rate at 6,9% of the labour force (men 6,0%, women 7,9%) compared to 29,600 people (6,3%) in the corresponding quarter of 2021. Employment (Table 2) In the 20-64 age group the employment rate was 78.1%. The rate for men was 84.2% and for women 72.5%. In the corresponding quarter of 2021 the percentage was 77,6% (men 83,8%, women 71,7%). In the ages 55-64 the employment rate was 65,3% compared to 65,7% in the corresponding quarter of 2021. According to the distribution of employment by sector, the largest percentage of employees is concentrated in Services with 80.3%, followed by Industry and Agriculture with rates of 17.4% and 2.3% respectively. For the 4th quarter of 2021 the corresponding percentages were: Services 81,1%, Industry 16,5% and Agriculture 2,4%. Part-time work accounted for 10.1% of total employment or 45,916 people (men 7.5%, women 13.0%). The corresponding percentage for the 4th quarter of 2021 was 11,2% (men 8,7%, women 14,1%). Of the total employed, 89.3% or 406,907 persons were employees, of whom 11.3% (46,051 persons) had temporary work. In the corresponding quarter of 2021, employees constituted 88,9% of the total employment and of these, 12,3% had temporary work. Unemployment (Table 3) Among young people aged 15-24 the unemployment rate was 19.2% of the labour force of these ages (men 21.3%, women 17.2%) compared to 17.4% (men 16.8%, women 18.1%) in the corresponding quarter of last year. Regarding the duration of unemployment, 54.0% of all unemployed people were looking for work for a period of less than 6 months, 13.6% for a period of 6-11 months, while 32.4% were long-term unemployed. The corresponding percentages for the 4th quarter of 2021 were 47,7%, 16,2% and 36,1%.
