Police on Tuesday arrested a 44-year-old man for possession of stolen property and illegal drugs.

According to Paphos head of CID, Michalis Nicolaou, traffic police stopped the vehicle driven by the man on Tombs of the Kings Avenue, shortly before 3 am.

In the ensuing search, police found a handmade half-smoked cannabis cigarette, as well as 44 keys of various types, for which the suspect was unable to give adequate explanation.

The 44-year-old was arrested and charged in writing, to be summoned before court at a later date. He continues to be detained for stolen property possession while the investigation continues.

Police in Paphos on Monday arrested a 25-year-old man for three incidents of theft from a supermarket.

According to the police, employees alerted them to the latest attempted theft of various items from a Paphos supermarket on the same day.

Investigations identified the man as also having stolen alcoholic drinks on two previous occasions earlier in March.

Police arrived at the scene where the 25-year-old had started shouting and causing concern to employees who had approached him.

He was immediately arrested for the offense of causing a public disturbance and taken into custody.

Police in Limassol on Monday arrested a 28-year-old man for money extortion through threats.

In a complaint received last Friday, the owner of a Limassol property told police that on March 14, the 28-year-old had arrived on his property, demanding monthly protection money, and claiming to be acting on behalf of a third party. The suspect allegedly made threats against the owner.

On March 16, an unknown man contacted the owner by phone asking for a meeting, without offering a reason. The second suspect is reportedly connected to the 28-year-old and implicated in the threats the latter made.

Following the complaint to Limassol CID last Friday, a judicial warrant was issued against the 28-year-old, who was arrested shortly after 10:00 pm on Monday.

Investigations continue.

Pafos Live 

A 42-year-old driver was spotted last night driving under the influence of substances.

Members of the traffic police stopped his vehicle for testing and, in addition to being positive for a drug test, he also possessed a small amount of drugs. A second driver violated the speed limit.

In a residential area where the limit is 50 kilometres he was driving at a speed of 100 kilometres.
