A complaint to the competent bodies against two doctors alleging that they are presenting themselves with titles that have not been recognized, was filed last week by the initiative group Medical Shield, which is part of the Cyprus Federation of Patients' Associations (OSAK).
The complaint was submitted in writing on March 13th to the Ethics Committee of the Pancyprian Medical Association, the Cyprus Medical Council and the Ministry of Health and is directed against two doctors, who are alleged to use titles that are not recognized. The complaint, according to information provided by "F", is already being investigated by all the competent bodies and, as we have been told, from its preliminary examination, it will become clear whether at first sight the complaint needs to be forwarded to the Police. Whether the Police will also be involved, as we were told by the Ethics Committee of the Pancyprian Medical Association, will depend on the study of material accompanying the complaint.
Information tells us that the complaint is accompanied by two links to websites in which services offered by the two doctors are mentioned or advertised. At the same time, according to our information, one of the two doctors named is a resident, which is why the Ministry of Health began an investigation.
According to the complaint, the two doctors voluntarily present themselves, with medical titles with which they have never been recognized by the competent body of the state. "For proof of the complaint and to collect evidence, I have included the link where you can find out what we are reporting. Since the Ethics Committee is the competent body of the state for the handling of such incidents by members of your Association, I request that you proceed immediately with an investigation and complaint to the Police to restore order and truth."
The same letter states that one of the two doctors named had been reported to the Police in the past on the same issue "and even to this day for reasons that we do not know, the complaint has not proceeded. I should also mention that your own investigation is pending on the part of the PIS on the same issue but also on other very serious complaints that endanger the safety and protection of the health of the whole society. Such phenomena must be stopped immediately but also punished so as not to threaten the lives of our own people and all our fellow human beings. We expect that this time you will take immediate drastic measures and act in accordance with your obligations and responsibilities towards the lives of patients," the letter stressed.
At the same time, the letter to the Cyprus Medical Council, which is the competent body of the state for the recognition of the professional qualifications of doctors and their registration in the Cyprus Register of Doctors, asks for information on "medical procedures related to ophthalmology, gynaecology, dermatology and plastic surgery and can be performed in accordance with the legislation, a doctor who has been recognized by your Council only with the first degree of their basic education."
