AIRPORTS - BEST FEBRUARY EVER

 Filenews 3 March 2023

The best performance ever recorded at Cypriot airports for the month of February, was recorded this year as there was an increase of 10% compared to the passenger traffic of February 2019 (the year when record passenger traffic was recorded in Cyprus). In total, more than 454,000 passengers travelled to and from Larnaca and Paphos International Airports.

More specifically, 315,830 passengers travelled to and from Larnaca Airport, recording an increase of 114% compared to 2022 and 5% compared to 2019. Respectively, 138,778 passengers travelled to and from Paphos Airport in February, recording an increase of 58% compared to 2022 and 26% compared to 2019.

In terms of the main markets, the first places are occupied by Greece, the United Kingdom, Israel, Poland and Germany, which account for about 70% of the total passenger traffic, recording occupancy rates approaching 80%. At the same time, compared to February 2019, this February we had the addition of 11 new destinations such as Paris, Prague, Rome, Marseille, etc., thus filling the gap left by the loss of the markets of Russia and Ukraine due to the war.

Hermes Airports' Senior Director of Aviation Development, Marketing and Communications, Maria Kouroupi, said that "Our country's connectivity is the driving force of Cyprus' tourism industry. We are proud that the efforts we made in previous years have borne fruit while the very positive results recorded this February from mainly tourist markets confirm on the one hand the thirst of the public for travel but also the fact that Cyprus is slowly winning the bet of the all-year destination. We are optimistic that this upward trend will continue in the coming months and will help the tourism industry in the recovery more broadly."
