WHEN DO NEW CAMERAS & MOBILE UNITS COME INTO FORCE?

 Filenews 21 February 2023

On Monday, March 6, the new cameras for traffic control in two more fixed points of Nicosia come into operation, while at the same time four more mobile cameras are coming.

The die has been cast for drivers who will now have to comply at the points where new cameras have been installed in order to avoid the out-of-court complaint. After last week's meeting where the Traffic Department of the Police Headquarters was satisfied with the explanations given by the contractor regarding two issues raised, it essentially gave the green light for the gradual operation of new cameras at six points in total and another 16 mobile units. These issues concerned the timely preparation of a file for registration in court of those cases where the extrajudicial document is not paid and for the information received from companies.

As assistant traffic director Haris Evripidou told "F", this week there will be a check of the two points where they will be put into operation and then a week will be given to inform the public to comply with the Road Traffic Code.

From March 6, the cameras installed in two locations in Nicosia will operate normally. These are Limassol Avenue with Armenia and Griva Digeni with Prodromou. He also added that four mobile cameras will be received at the same time, which will gradually increase to a total of 20 (with the four existing ones). According to the plan that has been determined, the first cameras will then operate at two points in Limassol, on Archbishop Makarios – N. Pattichis Avenue and on Archbishop Makarios – Agia Zoni Avenue. A little later, cameras will be put into operation in two more places in Nicosia, namely Makarios - Spyrou Avenue Kyprianou and Strovolou Avenue with Machaira Street.

Finally, Mr. Evripidou confirmed a report by "F" according to which the amendment of the legislation is being forwarded to the Parliament so that the notice that someone must receive from the post office out of court, is sent by sms instead of by post as is currently done. This is because many were unaware of the notice they received and did not receive their out-of-court complaint.
