STRONG DISSATISFACTION OF SIKAP FOR THE PROGRESS OF WORKS AT THE PORT OF PAPHOS

Filenews 14 February 2023 - by Dora Christodoulou

The Association of Owners of Paphos Leisure Centres (SIKAP) expresses its strong dissatisfaction with the stagnation observed in the last 15 days, in the upgrading works at the port of Kato Paphos.

On January 7, the bulldozers entered and any illegalities in the area began to be demolished, in order to upgrade the place, says the president of SIKAP, Angelos Onisiforou. The recreation centres gathered tables and chairs, closing for a certain period of time their businesses that expect to reopen around mid-February 2023 or at least on the last Sunday of the Carnival and Clean Monday, emphasizes:

"This period is considered the beginning of the new tourist season, which should be noted, has already begun, since several tourists are circulating in Paphos and flights to Paphos airport have increased.

The owners of the recreation centres of the port area, seeing the progress of the works, predict that the works will be completed around Easter and not a month after their start, based on a schedule and promises they had received. Such a development will destroy us economically."

The catering entrepreneurs, says their president, are deeply dissatisfied and concerned and are asking those responsible to speed up the procedures and adhere to the original timetables.

"The port in Kato Paphos has collected many sins, it is time to put in order and make a serious upgrade", he emphasizes. " The expenses of these enterprises, although closed, are running. They don't have water and electricity to start at least internal work, so they're in an uncertainty about when they'll reopen."

SIKAP calls on those responsible to start work here and now, again, in order to avoid unpleasant situations and additional problems, since the pandemic and the war in Ukraine have hit the recreation centres to a great extent.
