By sms on the mobile phone, drivers may be informed about the extrajudicial that awaits them from the cameras of the Traffic Police, while the registration of data by companies about the driver who broke the law can be done electronically. These two amendments to the legislation of the law on photo-tagging are promoted by the Traffic Police in order to make the service of extrajudicial documents easier and to overcome the confusion when the driver is not the owner of the vehicle.
The changes to the legislation will be promoted immediately with the reopening of the Parliament after the interruption of its work, due to the presidential elections, in order to facilitate the procedures for the service of extrajudicial documents. It is now allowed to serve the extrajudicial document through post offices with a registered envelope. Many drivers, however, knowing that it is an out-of-court complaint from the cameras due to the code used, avoid rushing to pick up the relevant letter from the Post Office.
If, in the end, the extrajudicial document is not received, then the authorities undertake to try up to twice to find the offending driver. If that fails, then the Police take over as a last-ditch effort. As for companies and "Z's", now the whole process is done through letters. With the amendment that will be attempted, the person in charge of the company will be able to electronically enter the driver's details in order to locate and deliver the out-of-court document. This will save time. It is noted that dozens of extrajudicial documents concerning companies are currently pending and which due to the procedures have not been clarified, which is why the proposal to change the legislation so that the details of the drivers who committed the violation are given immediately.
In the meantime, a meeting will be held today on the issue of receiving the new cameras, i.e. the first phase of the system. The meeting will be attended by the director of the Department of Electromechanical Services, the Traffic Police and the managing company. According to information from "F", the Traffic Police has set two conditions for the managing company that must be done in its computer system, before giving its approval for the receipt of the new cameras. Currently ready for trial operation are the cameras installed in two of the six total points included in the next phase. These are: one at the junction of Limassol Avenue with Armenia and the other at the junction of Grivas Digenis and Prodromou Avenues, both in Nicosia. Mobile cameras are also ready. When the new cameras are received, a period of time will be given to familiarize the drivers before they are put into normal operation. This will not happen until March has passed, so if everything goes normally, then the new cameras will be put into normal operation in early April.
