PAPHOS CRIME ROUND UP

The Police in Paphos proceeded with the arrest of two persons involved in a case of illegal possession of property.

According to the Paphos Police Director, Nikos Tsappis, as part of an operation to prevent traffic offenses, members of the Traffic Police stopped on Saturday night a vehicle in which a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old were riding.

As part of the subsequent search of their vehicle, according to Mr. Tsappi, four knives of a prohibited type and two watches were found. The two persons were arrested for illegal possession of property after failing to provide satisfactory explanations for their possession, but also for illegal possession of an offensive instrument.

According to the Paphos Police Director also, on the same night a 20-year-old driver tested positive for a drug test, while 34 traffic complaints also emerged. Of these, 16 concerned drivers under the influence of alcohol and six complaints concerned the misuse of scooters.

Forty-nine traffic complaints arose as part of a coordinated operation from Sunday afternoon until the dawn of Ash Monday in the district of Paphos. Most involved driving under the influence of alcohol and other substances. Paphos police chief Mr Tsapis said one in the eight drivers checked were drunk.

According to Paphos Police Director Nikos Tsappis, the operation continued with emphasis on the main causes of serious road collisions aimed at prevention and a total of 181 vehicles were stopped.

During the operation, 49 traffic complaints emerged, of which 21 concerned drivers under the influence of alcohol, three tested positive for a drug test and four complaints were made about personal mobility devices (scooters).

Also a driver was reported for non-compliance with a traffic light after passing in red and 3 more vehicle retentions were made.

The police arrested two persons who were allegedly involved in a case of illegal possession of property.

According to Paphos Police Director Nikos Tsappis, as part of an operation to prevent traffic offences, members of the Paphos Traffic Police Branch stopped a vehicle carrying two persons aged 19 and 20.

As part of the subsequent search of their vehicle, four prohibited type knives and two watches were found. The two persons were arrested for illegal possession of property after failing to provide satisfactory explanations for their possession and for illegal possession of an offensive instrument.

The 20-year-old driver also tested positive for a drug test. In addition, a sample was taken that will be sent for scientific examinations to the General Chemical State Laboratory.

A coordinated operation was carried out by the Paphos Police around midnight on Friday to combat noise pollution.

According to Paphos Police Director Nikos Tsapis, members of the Paphos Crime Prevention Unit conducted a coordinated operation around midnight on Friday to combat the phenomenon of noise pollution.

As part of the operationfive leisure centres were reported, one of which identified minors who are denied entry to nightclubs.

Mr. Tsapis said that the coordinated operations of the Police to combat noise pollution will continue at a later stage.

In addition, Mr. Tsapis said during the operation over a six-hour period from 23:00 on Saturday night until 05:00 on Sunday morning, 34 traffic complaints arose during inspections. Of the 34 traffic complaints, 16 drivers were behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol, one driver was spotted driving under the influence of drugs, and 6 complaints concerned personal mobility devices (scooters).
