Archimandrite Tychikos Vryonis was chosen by the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus as the new Metropolitan of Pafos.
The Holy Synod met today and after initially ratifying the three-person, as it emerged from the result of the metropolitan elections held last Sunday in Paphos, then by secret ballot chose Archimandrite Tychikos Vryonis as the new Metropolitan of Pafos. Tychikos Vryonis received 15 votes, against 1 vote of Ioannis Ioannou.
The consecration of the new Metropolitan of Pafos will take place on 12 March at the Cathedral of the Apostle Varnava in Nicosia, while later on the same day the enthronement will take place at the Metropolitan Church of Agios Theodoros in Paphos.
At the same time, the Holy Synod decided to exceptionally celebrate only for the year 2023 the sacrament of marriage during the period of fasting until December 12, 2023.
It is recalled that Archimandrite Tychikos Vryonis, Archimandrite Ioannis Ioannou and Bishop Nikolaos of Amathus were the three who emerged from the vote of the faithful. Specifically, Tychikos Vryonis received 50.01% of the votes, Ioannis Ioannou 29.99% and Nikolaos 14.57%.
