MOTORCYCLISTS - SUBSIDY OF UP TO €500 FOR PURCHASE OF AN AIRBAG

The Ministry of Transport announces the launch of the Second Announcement of the Protective Equipment Grant Scheme for the Period 2023 today, at 12:00m.

Applications will be accepted until 01/03/2023 at 12m. electronically on www.motosafety.gov.cy website and concern the motorcyclist body vest grant with a grant amount up to €500 including VAT.

The Scheme has a three-year duration (2022-2024), with a total budget of €1,050,000 for 3 years (€350,000 per year) and in 2022 it was successfully implemented after more than 1700 interested parties applied for the purchase of a Motorcyclist Airbag.

For the purchase of airbag-type protective equipment for motorcyclists, the subsidy amount is €500 or the actual cost of its purchase, whichever is lower. The amount of the subsidy will be calculated on the basis of the purchase price including VAT. It is noted that the grant does not concern the purchase of services, and the purchase cost does not cover subscriptions for the purchase of protective equipment or the provision of protective equipment by the leasing method.

Beneficiaries of the grant are all Cypriots, Europeans and citizens of third countries, who reside permanently in the areas under the effective control of the Republic of Cyprus and meet all the following criteria:

· Hold a driving licence for motor vehicles of at least one of the categories A or A1 or A2, and

· They are registered in the Register of the Department of Road Transport, and

· They are natural persons who hold an active motorcycle registration registered in their name.

Applications will only be accepted electronically through the online platform www.motosafety.gov.cy, entering your ID number, date of birth, vehicle registration number, mobile phone number and email address.

Applications will be examined on the basis of the criteria of the Scheme and those that meet the requirements will be classified in the applications to be approved. In case the interest is greater than the predetermined number of applications, an electronic draw will be held, and the applicants will be informed of the preliminary approval electronically (by email) or by text message (sms) or by post.

Applicants who will receive preliminary approval will be given a period of one month from the date of issue of the pre-approval, for submitting the supporting documents for the purchase of equipment and payment account details for the payment of the sponsorship. Applicants who will obtain pre-approval, but will not make a purchase or will not submit the necessary information and documents within the specified timeframes, will not receive the subsidy.

It is reminded that those applicants who have been subsidized with the announcement of the project in 2022 will be hidden during the pre-approval process and will be informed electronically or by SMS.
