Pafos Live 1 February 2023
The inauguration of the Mammography Center of Geroskipou "Christoforos Hadjilambris", which is part of the medical centre of the municipality, was held today by the Minister of Health, Mr. Michalis Hatzipantelas.
The centre was erected on land donated by the citizen of Geroskipou Christoforos Hadjilambris worth one and a half million euros and bears his name, while OPAP Cyprus proceeded to the purchase of a modern digital mammograph to equip the centre.
In his address to the event, Michalis Hatzipantelas said that the creation of mammographic centres in the districts of Paphos and Famagusta and the upgrading of the infrastructure of the centres in the other districts was one of the priorities of the ministry. He recalled that breast cancer screening is a public health program and is offered free of charge. Recently, the Council of Ministers approved the extension of the age limit to women from 45 to 74 years old instead of 50 to 69, which was in force until now.
The mayor of Geroskipou, Kyriakos Hadjivassilis, called on the state to immediately staff the medical centre in order to meet the increased needs, mainly of the eastern region of Pafos.
The president of Europa Donna Cyprus revealed that as soon as the donation became known, in 2018, for the construction of the medical centre they claimed and achieved the creation of a mammographic centre on the site, as was done in the Aglantzia health centre.
