CRIME ROUND UP

A Greek Cypriot was reportedly shot by Turkish Cypriot soldiers in the buffer zone in the Potamia area.

According to the first information, three Greek Cypriots were in the area to collect wild animals and under conditions that are being investigated, they were shot by Turkish Cypriot soldiers, resulting in one person being wounded in the shoulder.

Police forces rushed to the scene for searches while the Greek Cypriot was taken to Nicosia Hospital for treatment.

Criminal act in the centre of Nicosia with one person seriously injured [who has since died].

Around 22:00, at the junction of Nafpaktos Street and Digeni Akrita Avenue, opposite a well-known bakery, an unknown person opened fire on a vehicle with two people on board.

One of the two persons was reportedly seriously injured. The information states that he bears head injuries.

He was immediately transferred to Nicosia General Hospital. From the first moment, police cars rushed to the spot and the examinations began.  Unfortunately one of those seriously injured has since died.

A murder case, involving Alsweidani Ahmad, 21, from Syria, is being investigated by the Police in Nicosia.

Around 9.40p.m. yesterday, information was received to the Police, about the firing of shots, on a street in the center of Nicosia. Members of the Police immediately went to the scene, where they found that the 21-year-old was seriously injured in the shooting.

The injured man was immediately taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was found to have a gunshot wound to the head. Despite the efforts of doctors, he succumbed to his injuries around 10.45pm.

The scene where the 21-year-old was injured was blocked by members of the Police for examinations, during which various documents were collected.

The ICF Nicosia continues the examinations.

A gas station owner in Polis Chrysochous reported on Sunday night that he sounded the alarm system at his petrol station and when he visited it, he found that his glass entrance was shattered and some had gone inside and stolen money and other items.

According to the complaint, in particular, the sum of €300 was stolen from the cash register, a leather bag containing the sum of €3000 and various other documents such as cheques, chequebooks and bank documents.

From the images recorded by the CCTV it was found that the door had been rammed by a car, based on the registration numbers of which it was reported stolen on January 29 in Paphos. It was also established from the footage that the driver was wearing a hood.

The car was then found abandoned on the Paphos – Polis Chrysochous road near the village of Giolou. After being sealed, the car was taken to the Polis Chrysochous Police Station for scientific examinations.
