A quantity of cannabis over 200 grams was detected and seized yesterday by the Police, in an open area of the Pafos district. To facilitate interrogations, a 26-year-old resident of Paphos was arrested and detained.

Specifically, after evaluating specific information, members of the YKAN (Paphos District Unit), located around 3 p.m. yesterday, in an open area of the District of Paphos, the 26-year-old, who was allegedly trying to pick up a quantity of cannabis, which was hidden in a plastic pipe. A quantity of cannabis, gross weight of 174 grams, was found and seized at the scene, while the 26-year-old was arrested for an offence committed in the act of committing an offence.

This was followed by a search of the 26-year-old's car, during which a quantity of cannabis, gross weight of three grams was found, while further searches in the area, a precision scale and a plastic container containing cannabis, with a gross weight of 31 grams, were found hidden in the wild vegetation.

A judicial arrest warrant was obtained against the 26-year-old under which he was re-arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations.

The total gross weight of the cannabis seized is 208 grams.   YKAN is investigating the case.

An eight-year prison sentence was imposed today by the Assize Court sitting in Larnaca on a 21-year-old man after finding him guilty in a case of illegal import of drugs.

In an announcement, the Police Communication Branch states that "on September 25, 2022 around noon, the 21-year-old arrived at Larnaka airport on a flight from abroad. In a subsequent search of his luggage by officers of the Department of Customs and Excise, in cooperation with members of the YKAN, a quantity of cocaine of a net weight of 2,800 grams was found.

The members of the YKAN, "by identifying the amount of cocaine, proceeded to arrest the 21-year-old for flagrant offenses. He was detained for the purpose of investigating a case of supplying drugs from another person, illegal importation, possession, and possession of drugs for the purpose of supplying to another person."

A nine-year prison sentence was imposed yesterday by the Assize Court, sitting in Paphos, on a 39-year-old resident of Paphos, who was found guilty in a case of illegal import of drugs.

In the same case, the Court also imposed a six-month prison sentence on a 45-year-old man who was found guilty of the offences of forgery and impersonation.

Specifically, on September 27, 2022, a package arrived through a transport company, which was found to contain a quantity of cannabis, net weight of eight kilograms and 154 grams. Police examinations secured testimony against the 39-year-old and the 45-year-old, who had been arrested and detained in the following days.

A grenade was found on a beach in Kouklia in Paphos district last Sunday. According to the Police, the grenade was found by a citizen, who was walking on this beach and located the item. He immediately informed the authorities and members of the ICF Paphos rushed to the place along with a pyrotechnician.

The grenade was taken to the Police laboratories for further examinations and investigations, in order to clarify its origin, the time of its stay in the specific place and construction details that may shed light on the conditions under which it was found on the beach.

The Police in Limassol was mobilized yesterday afternoon after information about the detection of a pistol in the Limassol district.

According to the Police, yesterday afternoon, a woman alerted the Police stating that while taking her dog for a walk, she spotted a pistol in a field between the villages of Pera Pedi and Manandria in the Limassol district.

Members of the Police were called to the scene and received the pistol which will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if it has been used in a criminal act.
