BirdLife Cyprus expresses satisfaction with the Akamas Local Plan published on Friday as, as it states with these new urban zones that come into force in 6 months, the protection of nature in the area is adequately ensured.
The press release adds that the provisions that would have a serious negative impact on the Natura 2000 site and the species for which it is protected were abolished or restricted, based on the conditions set by the Department of Environment. The intact natural landscape is preserved, which is the comparative advantage of the area and a pole of attraction for visitors.
The focus should now be on local communities to see first-hand the real benefits of protecting the area. It is a model of long-term prosperity that operates successfully in many parts of the world with enormous benefits for both man and nature.
