The President of the Republic,
Mr Nicos Anastasiades, had a meeting yesterday with King Charles the Third,
following an invitation by His Majesty, the King.
The meeting was held in a
friendly atmosphere in the presence of the First Lady, Ms Andri Anastasiade,
and Queen Consort, Camilla, at the King’s private residence of Birkhall,
Balmoral Castle, Scotland.
During the meeting, President
Anastasiades briefed the King on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus
issue. The bilateral relations between Cyprus and Great Britain were also
discussed, which have been significantly strengthened during President
Anastasiades’ ten year tenure, with the conclusion of highly important
bilateral agreements and Memoranda of Understanding such as, for example, the
Memorandum for Strategic Cooperation and the Memorandum on non-military
development of the British Sovereign Bases in Cyprus to the benefit of the
inhabitants of the aforementioned areas.
At the President’s meeting with
Prince Charles, issues on the Commonwealth agenda were also discussed, as
well as climate change and its consequences with reference to the initiative
of President Anastasiades for actions aimed at tackling the effect of climate
change in the region of the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean.
