UPDATE - AT 1400 ROADS INTO TROODOS CLOSED TO ALL VEHICLES DUE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL.
The weather is still rainy today throughout Cyprus, resulting in some problems in the road network, especially in the Famagusta district.
According to the Police, due to the accumulation of water on the roadway, Protaras Avenue and the Ayia Napa – Agia Thekla road are closed to traffic. At the same time, due to water accumulation, several roads in the area of Ayia Napa and Paralimni have become dangerous.
In the mountainous area of Larnaca district there is dense fog, which in combination with heavy rainfall limit visibility to a large extent. The areas of the Skarinou – Lefkara, Lefkara Vavatsinias and Vavatsinias – Agioi Vavatsinias roads are most severely affected by the phenomena.
In the higher mountains due to snowfall, the roads Karvounas – Troodos, Platres – Troodos and Prodromos – Troodos are open only for vehicles equipped with snow chains or with four-wheel drive.
In the rest of the regions, due to constant rainfall, the roads are slippery.
Therefore, the Police urges drivers to be particularly careful, to drive at low speeds, to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles in front and to keep the headlights of their vehicle on.
