The Police in Limassol are investigating a money extortion with false representations, following a complaint by two people, that despite paying for a two-week cruise to the Greek islands, what they actually received was a two-hour cruise off the coast of Cyprus. To facilitate the investigations, the Police proceeded to the arrest of a 27-year-old man, while a second person is wanted.
Specifically, the two complainants, aged 23 and 30, reported yesterday to the Police that in the previous days they had come to an agreement, with an unknown person, who presented himself to them as a travel agent, to conduct a two-week cruise, with a luxury boat, to the Greek islands. For this purpose, the two complainants agreed to pay a sum of money, which amounted to a total of €6,000.
According to the arrangements made, yesterday the two complainants met with an associate of the alleged travel agent, to whom they paid the agreed amount of money and transported them to a Limassol marina, from where their cruise would begin. After boarding the boat and talking to the captain, they realized that the cruise was only two hours long, in the seaside area of Limassol.
Subsequently, the captain of the boat transferred the two complainants to the Police, while he also returned to them the amount of €650, which he had received from the partner of the alleged travel agent, as payment for the two-hour cruise.
From the examinations of the Police, it was found that the person who carried the two complainants on board is a 27-year-old man, against whom a judicial arrest warrant was issued and he was arrested for facilitating interrogations. In his possession was found a sum of money amounting to €3,300, which is believed to be part of the money given by the two complainants.
The ICF Limassol continues the examinations.
