RYANAIR PERMANENTLY CLOSING ITS BASE AT BRUSSELS ZAVENTEM AIRPORT

 Filenews 11 January 2023

Ryanair announced today that it is permanently closing its base at Brussels Zaventem Airport, due to high fares and taxes.

In a press release, Ryanair says this decision is due to "Zaventem Airport's decision to increase its prices by 11% as of April 2023".

It also highlights: "Unlike many other airports in the EU, which are lowering their prices to regain lost traffic during the Covid pandemic or which are freezing charges to boost the increase in passenger numbers, Brussels Zaventem has chosen to increase prices again by 11% for airlines and passengers from April 2023, which makes it even less competitive compared to other Belgian and European airports."

Ryanair explains that it will continue to operate twelve routes to and from Brussels airport in the summer of 2023 with aircraft based outside Belgium. The locations in question are: Barcelona, Mallorca, Berlin, Marrakech, Dublin, Pisa, Girona, Porto, Madrid, Rome, Malaga, Valencia.

The airline also clarifies that its flights to and from Charleroi airport will not be affected by this decision.
