RAIN AND SNOW ON THE WAY

Filenews 26 January 2023 - by Despina Psylou

The weather scene changes, since the sunshine of the previous days will give way to cloudy weather, local rains, thunderstorms and snowfall. Tomorrow dust is expected in the atmosphere, while the area will gradually be affected by low pressure.

For his part, the director of the Department of Meteorology, Kleanthis Nikolaidis, noted that this is a light isolated rain mainly from stratomorphic clouds. The day will initially be sunny, but from noon onwards it will become cloudy, with medium and high clouds, which in the afternoon may give isolated light rain, mainly in the mountains. The temperature will be well above normal levels for the season.

Tomorrow the weather will be mostly cloudy with isolated rains, but it is not excluded that there will be an isolated thunderstorm mainly in the northwest. Diluted dust may hover in the atmosphere. On Saturday, the weather will be temporarily partly cloudy with isolated rains. Clouds and local rains are also expected during Sunday, while snow or sleet is likely to fall in the higher mountains.

The temperature is expected to gradually drop by Sunday, to hover near or slightly above the average climatic values for the season.

Detailed weather report

Weak high pressure affects the area, however weak low pressure is expected gradually by tonight. Diluted dust will hover in the atmosphere from time to time.
Initially the weather today will be mostly clear, but from noon onwards, increased average and high clouds will make it partly cloudy and intermittently cloudy, while isolated light rain is expected. The winds will initially blow variable weak, 3 Beaufort, to soon turn northeast to southeast, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be up to a little turbulent, however later, in the west, south and north, it will become locally a little turbulent. The temperature will rise to around 20 degrees inland and on the coast and around 10 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tonight the weather will remain partly cloudy and intermittently cloudy, mainly from medium and high clouds, which may give isolated light rain. The winds will continue to blow mainly northeast to southeast, weak and locally to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and gradually on the coast locally moderate, 4 Beaufort. The sea will gradually become a little turbulent in general. The temperature will drop to around 5 degrees inland, around 9 degrees on the coast and around 4 degrees in the higher mountains, where locally frost is expected to form.
On Friday the weather will be mostly cloudy, while isolated rains are expected. From the evening onwards, local rains and possibly an isolated thunderstorm are expected. In the higher mountains, snow or sleet may fall.

On Saturday, the weather will be partly cloudy and intermittently cloudy with isolated rains, but the occurrence of an isolated thunderstorm is not excluded.

On Sunday the weather will continue to be intermittently cloudy, with isolated rains and possibly isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the eastern half of the island. At the weekend, snow or sleet may fall on the higher mountains.

The temperature until Sunday is expected to gradually drop slightly, but to remain above the average climatic values for the season.
