Peyia will have the largest coastal pedestrian street in Cyprus and the newest and most modern central avenue with the advent of 2023.  Already, the procedures for the creation of the two projects are progressing rapidly.

According to the Mayor of Peyia, Marinos Lambrou, the coastal pedestrian street of Pegeia is an urban project costing €2.5 million. The first phase of the project, he said, will be two kilometres long and will be part of the wider coastal pedestrian street that starts from the Marina area in Potima and will end at the port of Agios Georgios in Peyia, covering a total distance of 14 kilometres along the coast.

"In the first phase," he noted, "it is planned to build an amphitheatre, an outdoor gym, a basketball court, a kiosk and a playground. This is a very important project that will upgrade the Municipality of Peyia. The completion of the project is estimated at 18 months."

The Mayor of Pegeia also mentioned that the Municipality of Pegeia has long been proceeding with the reconstruction of the central Michalaki Avenue Kyprianou the Municipality, which will give a modern image and function to the central fabric of Peyia. The Contract for the Improvement and Reconstruction of Michalaki Avenue Kyprianou was signed with Maria Charalambidou, on behalf of the Contractor Company "Charalambides S. Petros and Bros Ltd".

The total amount of the Contract amounts to approximately  €4million and the execution time of the project is 18 months. The improvement of the avenue was one of the main priorities of both the Mayor and the City Council and after five years of persistent efforts, determination and intense representations to all the competent authorities and services, it became possible to promote and implement it.
