Filenews 1 January 2023 - by Dora Christodoulou

Among the many cases that concerned the Police in Paphos on New Year's Eve, one stands out: It concerns a 27-year-old from Paphos who turned his car into... a patrol car, equipping it with a light and siren just like the vehicles of the force.

The identification of the driver in question was made during the checks carried out on the night with patrols of the Police throughout the road network of the city and province. Members of the Traffic Police stopped a car driven by a 27-year-old man on the road for inspection, only to find that they were surprised during the subsequent check that a light was installed in it, but also a siren in exactly the same way as there are in police vehicles. The vehicle was taken to the Paphos Police Department for further examination, while the driver was charged in writing.

On the same night, the Police proceeded to Paphos with a total of 34 complaints, 18 of which concerned driving under the influence of alcohol and one under the influence of drugs. In one case, a 23-year-old driver was found to have a small amount of drugs, copper wires and tubes and burglary tools in his vehicle. The young man was arrested and taken into custody, while examinations for his actions continue.

A 33-year-old man ended up in the cell in the early hours of Sunday morning by the Police who was driving his vehicle, which did not have registration plates.

According to the Police, the driver of the vehicle was found to be a 33-year-old man, in whose possession a quantity of cannabis was found.

Also, during an inspection, about seven kilograms of copper wires and various pipes, a saw, two screwdrivers and other tools were found inside the vehicle, for which he did not give sufficient explanations for their possession.

The 33-year-old was arrested for the offences of illegal possession of drugs, illegal possession of property and possession of burglary tools during the night.

The ICF and the Paphos YKAN continue the examinations.
