PAPHOS HARBOUR - WORKS VALUED AT €9million UNDERWAY

Filenews 21 January 2023 - by Dora Christodoulou

Two more major projects in Paphos, continue to carry out important infrastructure and improvements in the city in 2023. The first project concerns the construction of the Western Coastal Sidewalk that extends from Paphos Harbour to the Paphos - Chlorakas boundary, worth €7.6 million and the second the upgrade of the urban equipment and the facades of the premises at the pier and the port.

The works on the land area of the port have already caused a sensation due to the extent of the demolitions that are in progress, in order, according to the municipal authority, to create a completely new and tasteful look in the premises and public spaces with the new tourist season. The machines have already proceeded to massive demolitions of additions to the facades of traditional premises and to more general interventions in public spaces, in order to implement the new design that provides for the upgrade of urban equipment and infrastructure in the area surrounding the wider port basin in Paphos Harbor, with a total cost of €1.7 million.

The planning includes the supply and installation of new urban equipment along the beach, the repair and upgrade of the infrastructure in the area of the Castle and the Harbour, the maintenance of the "Fishermen's Café", the maintenance and restoration of shade facades, the planting and landscaping in the area.

The second project in the wider coastal area includes the completion of the network of pedestrian streets surrounding the Municipality of Pafos, the protection and promotion of areas that are exceptional in terms of natural environment, since part of the project will be constructed within the Special Area of Conservation and Special Protection Area of the Natura network, the protection and promotion of cultural elements that are part of the study area such as the Medieval Castle, the Pafos Archaeological Park and the Archaeological Site Tombs of the Kings, while at the same time contributing to the improvement of the condition of the existing pedestrian street that starts at the Medieval Castle Square and reaches the beach of Faros which is already used by a significant number of tourists and visitors.

And in this case, as in the land area of the port, the works are in full swing, having placed partitions along the sidewalk from the Castle to the Lighthouse, in order to cut off the traffic in the part of the works.

The above projects are co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2014-2020 and the Municipality of Paphos.
