Financial injection of €2 million will be granted by the Government to the Cyprus Ski Group for the construction of a new ski resort. The new building will be constructed in the Sun Valley area of Troodos and will be an elegant ski resort that will be in line with the character of the Troodos area.
The Ski Center has been operating since 1947, however the main building is in very poor condition, despite the many repairs made from time to time to the infrastructure. The Group has signed contracts with the construction company for the construction of the new ski resort, which will be completed in 2024 and will cost €3.7 million. The building will have a total area of 1,260 square metres and will include a ski rental shop, a conference room and dining areas. The project is expected to significantly upgrade the area and contribute to reducing the negative effects of seasonality.
In addition to the development of winter tourism, it will also contribute to the enrichment of summer tourism and the development of the activity of mountain communities, resulting in the reduction of urbanization and unemployment. Besides, this is one of the reasons why the Council of Ministers, at the end of November 2022, approved the granting of the relevant sponsorship to the Group.
In its decision, it took into account the significant economic benefits that are expected to arise in the tourism sector, with the enrichment of the tourist product, the strengthening and stimulation of the wider Troodos area, with the increase of both domestic and external tourism.
According to the decision of the Ministry, the sponsorship will begin to be granted by the Ministry of Finance after the Group spends the part of the cost that will be paid from its own resources. The sponsorship will be granted gradually and depending on the progress of the implementation of the project, after the submission of all the required data and documents, the presentation of all the required permits for the construction of the building, the contractor's work certificate by the responsible engineer of the project, copies of the invoices and anything else deemed necessary.
