MEGA STARS OF THE COMEDY WORLD COMING TO CYPRUS

Cyprus Mail 21 January 2023 - by Eleni Philippou

Some of the biggest names on the international comedy scene have planned shows in Cyprus this year. The Cyprus stages and nightlife scene are getting ready to welcome Elena Gabrielle, Dara O’Brian and Jimmy Carr. And what’s more, all the comedy nights will be in English!

First to perform in Cyprus is comedian and storyteller Elena Gabrielle who returns to the island with a brand-new show. On March 15 she will take the stage of Savino Live in Larnaca, joined by Cypriot Smurf Peter Kypri before performing another show the following evening at Limassol’s Raven’s Music Hall.

Elena’s stand-up performances often include personal dating stories, anecdotes and sometimes songs, heavily sprinkled with dirty jokes. Her previous solo show, Dirrty 2.0, toured across Europe and Canada in 2021 and was sold out. Now, Elena is back with a new show titled Addickted that is layered with unbelievable true stories. During Kypri’s stand-up, he will take the stage without the fake moustache he is known for to give audiences a look into what goes through his mind on a daily basis, his funny encounters and incessant overthinking.

In April, Irish world-class stand-up comedian Dara Ó Brian, described as one of the most charismatic, intelligent, fast-talking and funny live performers working today, will be back on tour, with a brand-new show which includes a stop in Cyprus. On April 25 he will be at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre for a show filled with hilarious stories delivered in his unique style.

Besides his comedy shows, O’ Brian is also a presenter, author and game show host best known as the host of BBC’s satirical panel show Mock The Week. Later this year, he will entertain Cyprus audience with his clever one-liners, audience participation and tripping over his words.

Continuing the British humour is another top comedian from the UK who will host a show in Nicosia in November. In November, Jimmy Carr will bring his Terribly Funny 2.0 show to the island, taking the stage of Strovolos Municipal Theatre. Dark humour and outrageous jokes make up the performances of the multi-award-winning comedian who is known to not hold back.

“Jimmy’s show contains jokes about all kinds of terrible things,” say the organisers. “Terrible things that might have affected you or people you know and love. But they’re just jokes – they are not terrible things. Having political correctness at a comedy show is like having health and safety at a rodeo. Now you’ve been warned, buy a ticket.”
