Shocking evidence was reported by the examiner of the ICF Paphos yesterday in the District Court, regarding the premeditated murder that is being investigated against the 45-year-old driver of the vehicle that at dawn on Saturday fatally injured the 58-year-old moped driver Ioannis Polycarpou, on the Avenue Tombs of the Kings in Kato Paphos.
From the very first examinations of the authorities and from the testimonies received from the beginning by the Police, its representative stressed, it had clarified that what was initially considered as another tragic accident on the roads, was a premeditated attempted murder with the alleged perpetrator being the driver of the vehicle.
The representative of the ICF Paphos revealed yesterday before the court that from the closed surveillance circuits in the area, but also from the testimony of a driver who realized in time what was happening and followed the victim and alleged perpetrator, it appears that the 45-year-old British man drove his car on the moped of the 58-year-old, hit him and dragged him for a distance of 70 metres on the asphalt, before leaving him bleeding.
The eyewitness in question even tried to follow the vehicle involved after the tragic incident, but lost it in the narrow streets of the Mouttalou district where the alleged perpetrator was heading.
All the testimonies from the patrons of the beer garden where a little earlier they entertained victim and alleged perpetrator, the police spokesman stressed, converge in that the two were arguing fiercely over their personal issues. Immediately after the unfortunate 58-year-old left the recreation centre, they testified, he was followed by the 45-year-old Briton and a few minutes later the fatal accident occurred, with the driver involved with the car in it leaving the scene and being searched for hours, until he was finally located at 8.00am.
When the suspect's vehicle was spotted on a Paphos road and even having burglary tools in it, as it was found, the police found that the part of the front of the vehicle that had been damaged by the collision with the victim's moped, had already been casually painted with paint spray in order, apparently, to eliminate the traces of the collision.
The suspect was arrested and transferred to the Paphos Police Department where he was detained, while he has also tested positive for drug use after being found and underwent a drug test with a positive sign.
Police requested a detention order for a 45-year-old man
The police spokesman asked the Paphos District Court for an eight-day detention order, stressing that the Police are now examining a case of premeditated murder and described the case as very serious. The court granted the request and ordered the suspect's eight-day detention, a development to which his defence did not object. The examinations are continued by the ICF Paphos.
