CHAINS OF CASES AT PAPHOS GENERAL HOSPITAL - VISITORS MUST PLEASE RESPECT THE PROTOCOL

 Filenews 11 January 2023

The transmission of COVID-19 began from the visitation in two specific wards at Paphos General Hospital, according to SHSO Spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou, who noted that the situation is being closely monitored.

In his statements, Mr. Charilaou said that there were two small chains of transmission in two specific wards at Paphos General Hospital. Then "the patients were immediately transferred to the COVID-19 clinic, all the necessary actions were taken, both staff and patients were tested, and it became clear that none of the staff is positive," he said, adding that the conclusion drawn is that "the transmission comes from the visiting room."

Therefore, visiting these wards was forbidden for two to three days, so that the re-inspection could take place, he added.

Our appeal to the public, he continued, is to observe the visiting protocol for a negative rapid test of 24 hours, to have one visitor per patient with a short presence and to use a mask, as provided by the protocol.

Asked if any measures are being taken, Mr. Harilaou said that they are closely monitoring the situation, have a stable number of hospitalized, around 90 and that the situation for COVID-19 is manageable. He added that if more beds need to be opened, they will do so.

Finally, he called on the public to follow the instructions of experts, to avoid crowded places, to keep their distance, to wear their mask in order to avoid further dispersal in society.
