ATHENS ARRESTS UNCOVERS CONTRACT KILLING TO TARGET NICOSIA POLICE STATION

Filenews 23 January 2023 - by Fanis Makridis

Death contracts were executed by, among others, the international criminal organization, whose members allegedly targeted a central police station in Nicosia.

Well-informed sources of "F" report that the message that reached the Cypriot law enforcement authorities through Interpol Athens in the middle of last week, states that six of the total 11 people who were arrested around last December in Attica, "are active in drug trafficking, but also in the execution of on-demand criminal acts (murders, sabotage, robberies)".

It is indicative that as reported on 15 December by the spokesperson of the Hellenic Police, Konstantia Dimoglou, one of the 11 who had been arrested on 13 December in the wider area of Attica, had a similar past.

He is a 47-year-old man from a Balkan country. In his home country he had been arrested in cases involving homicide, illegal possession of weapons and participation in a paramilitary organization.

According to the information that the Cyprus Police has from Intepol Athens, evidence collected during the coordinated operation of departments and services of the Greek Police on December 13, shows that the members of the ring were preparing a strike (criminal act) against a central police station in Nicosia.

At this point, it should be noted that according to official positions of the Hellenic Police, last month, "a number of handwritten notes" were seized in its large-scale operation. Through these notes, that is, evidence has emerged about the planned strike in Nicosia.

According to yesterday's information of "F", the Cyprus Police are currently trying to determine whether the six of the arrested had travelled to Cyprus before their arrest. It should be noted that the Greek authorities provided accurate information about these six persons, while they also have at their disposal false travel documents used by the members of this international criminal organization.

In addition, the prosecuting authorities of Cyprus are looking for the possible motive of the perpetrators. It is not clear, however, whether the members of the international gang targeted individuals enrolled in the witness protection programme.

Since last Thursday, 19 January the Police Headquarters has informed all departments and services about the case. At the same time, preventive security measures were taken. The Police headquarters is on line with the Greek authorities.

The coordinated operation of the Hellenic Police on December 13, six foreigners from Balkan countries, aged 47, 45, 43, 40, 31 and 26, respectively, as well as five persons of Greek origin, were arrested. They are three men (31, 29 and 28 years old) and two women aged 28 and 32.

During the operation, large quantities of drugs, TNT plates and related equipment, a large amount of money, bulletproof, vehicles and 41 mobile phones were found and seized. The arrestees were charged with the offences of membership and participation in a criminal organisation, manufacture and possession of explosives, forgery of certificates and disobedience, as well as violation of drug and weapons laws. According to the data released by the Hellenic Police, the police examinations revealed the professional infrastructure and training of the members of the organization who had distinct roles.
