A case of reckless and dangerous driving, without insurance and with many other traffic violations is being investigated by the Paphos Police against a 26-year-old man from Syria, who was finally arrested after a chase on the streets of Paphos on Tuesday night.
According to the spokesperson of the Paphos Police Department, Michalis Nikolaou, the incident took place an hour before midnight on Mesogi Avenue, when members of the Paphos Traffic Police tried to stop a vehicle by signalling for control purposes since according to a relevant system owned by the members of the force, the vehicle in question was not covered by insurance, it was declared as immobilized, and five court fine warrants were being issued against its owner.
The driver, however, did not stop at the signal of the members of the Traffic Police, but developed speed to escape. A chase ensued, while the driver moved recklessly and dangerously, passing red traffic lights and vehicles ahead, endangering lives and property.
In the area of Anavargos, it was finally possible to immobilize the vehicle and it was found that the driver was a 26-year-old permanent resident of Paphos from Syria, a construction worker by profession.
The 26-year-old was arrested both for the fines he owed and for the offences he committed in the act of committing and was taken into custody.
