The time is running out for compliance with the European directive on marking on single-use plastics.
In the context of the checks carried out to reduce the impact of certain single-use plastic products on the environment, the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture recalls that:
1. The time limit for the acceptance of the sticker marking, in the items required by the European Directive and national legislation as below, expires on 31/12/2022.
2. As of 1/1/2023, all products that will be on the market and which fall under the provisions of the Legislation for the placement of the marking, must bear the marking printed or engraved, depending on the specifications, as they result from the European Regulation 2020/2151 / EU.
3. In accordance with Article 36H of the Waste Law (Law 48/(I)2022), regarding the requirements for marking, single-use plastic products provided for in the provisions of Part D, of Annex VIA, which are placed on the market, must bear a conspicuous, legible and indelible marking on their packaging or on the product itself, as provided by the harmonized specifications issued by the Implementing Regulation of the European Commission EU/2020/215.
4. These shall include the following product categories:
I. Sanitary napkins, tampons and tampon applicators (excluding incontinence diapers and baby diapers)
II. Wet wipes (pre-wetted personal hygiene and household wipes)
III. Tobacco products with filters and filters marketed for use in combination with tobacco products
IV. Beverage cups (cups made entirely or partly of plastic)
