1  ARREST FOR ARMED ROBBERY

The Police on Friday arrested a 23-year-old man, as part of the investigation into the assault and armed robbery case, which took place on the evening of December 5, 2022, in Paphos.

The assault and armed robbery were committed at around 9.45 pm at a building complex in Paphos. According to witnesses, a group of eight persons, who were allegedly in possession of guns, swords, and sticks, allegedly entered a house in the said complex and attacked a 20-year-old and a 24-year-old man, inflicting knife wounds. The perpetrators also allegedly stole two mobile phones and the sum of €500.

The two injured persons were taken to the Paphos General Hospital, where they received first aid and were discharged.

In the same case, another three persons, a man aged 30 and two men aged 25, were arrested in the previous days while a fourth man, aged 26, who was also arrested for the purpose of investigating the case, was subsequently released after nothing incriminating against him was found.

The Paphos CID is continuing the investigations.

2 THEFT OF CASH FROM ELDERLY MAN

Members of the Limassol Police have arrested a 22-year-old man, in connection with a case under investigation of a theft of money from a 78-year-old man, who had just earlier withdrawn the money from an ATM.

According to the evidence under investigation, around 11.00 on Friday, the 78-year-old man went to a bank branch in Limassol, where he withdrew the sum of €760 from the ATM outside the bank. After the 78-year-old entered his car to leave, an unidentified man approached him and after taking the money from his hand, he fled running.

Investigations conducted by members of the police into the theft revealed evidence against the 22-year-old suspect. He was located shortly after 2.30 pm but he attacked the police members and tried to flee. After the police members intercepted him, they proceeded to arrest him, despite the suspect’s resistance, and in a subsequent search, a sum of  €760 was found in his possession, which was retained as evidence.

An arrest warrant was issued against the 22-year-old suspect who was arrested and taken into custody for the purpose of investigating the theft case.

The case is being investigated by the Agios Ioannis Police Station.
