The air defence exercise "APHRODITE SHIELD" took place on Thursday, in which the Air Defence Units of the Air Force Command of the National Guard and aircraft of the Royal Air Force participated.
A statement states that the purpose of the exercise, which was conducted for the first time, was to train the Air Defence personnel of the National Guard in the tactics of deployment of air forces, to increase operational readiness and the level of standardization in the planning and conduct of air operations.
The air defence system was activated, as well as the self-protection system of the National Guard facilities, and its performance in realistic conditions was evaluated, facing modern fighter aircraft.
In addition, personnel practiced tactical weapons control procedures and information transmission as well as air defence procedures of the Air Control Center.
The announcement adds that the exercise, which is part of the Bilateral Defence Cooperation Programme between the Republic of Cyprus and the United Kingdom, is considered to be particularly beneficial, as it enables National Guard personnel to co-train with Units of the British Armed Forces, thus promoting interoperability and the development of relations in the field of aviation cooperation.
