The port of Limassol recorded a record number of arrivals for this year in October, with the managing company of the Passenger Terminal, DP World Limassol, welcoming 29 cruise ships and more than 46,000 passengers.
It is worth noting that DP World Limassol has welcomed a total of 128 cruise ships and 154,000 passengers in the period January-October 2022, while it expects another 35 cruise ships by the end of the year. Thus, the total number of arrivals for this year is expected to reach 163, presenting a significant increase compared to 2021.
Visitors had the opportunity to visit the city of Limassol as well as to participate in organized excursions to various places of interest throughout the island, contributing significantly to the strengthening of the local economy.
In his statements, the CEO of DP World Limassol, Mr. Nawaf Abdulla, expressed satisfaction with this year's performance of the port: "Our continuous and targeted efforts in cooperation with the government, our various stakeholders and our local partners, have resulted in the port of Limassol attracting today leading cruise companies. The Cypriot cruise sector has shown particular resilience, despite the difficult conditions of the past two years, recording this year the best results of recent years," he said.
"At the same time, at DP World Limassol we are optimistic for next year, as we expect conditions to be even more favorable. In particular, our estimates for 2023 are equally good, as we have already received a large number of bookings, while we are in talks with cruise companies, which will use the port of Limassol either as a home port or as a transit station," he added.
It is noted that DP World Limassol estimates that the Company's cruise sector will continue to show consistently good results in the coming years, with the port of Limassol expecting more than 210 cruise ships in 2023.
