POSTAL SERVICES - MARKET SHARE IN CYPRUS

Based on the market shares of the total turnover of all postal service providers for 2021, Cyprus Post prevailed with a percentage of 32%, followed by DHL with 14% and GAP Akis Express and ACS Air Courier Services with 13% each, according to the statistical bulletin of postal services for the period 2005-2021, of the Office of the Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Courier Regulation (OCECPR).

For outbound international courier services, the public preferred Cyprus Post by 10% in 2021. Cyprus Post's market share in courier services over the last 10 years ranges from 6% in 2020 to 15.9% in 2010.

DHL holds by far the largest market share, with its shares over the last ten years hovering over 40% of the market.

For inbound international courier services, Cyprus Post held 13% of the market in 2021, showing a significant increase from 2016 onwards, when its market share in the sector doubled.

Regarding the local courier market, the market share in 2020-2021, based on the number of items, was mainly divided between GAP Akis Express and ACS Air Courier Services, with 42.7% and 42.3% respectively.

Augmentation

According to the data, incoming items in 2020 exceeded 1.9 million, while in 2021 they exceeded 2.4 million, recording an increase of 47% compared to 2019, when they reached 1.64 million. A similar increase was recorded in the incoming small packages delivered by the Cyprus Post. In 2019, these amounted to 1.7 million, while in 2021 they rose to 2.3 million, recording a 35% increase.

For outgoing items in international couriers the increase was not corresponding, as from 694,000 in 2019 they increased to 746,000 in 2021, recording an increase of 7,5%, while in the outgoing small packages handled by the Cyprus Post there was a decrease in 2021 to 309,000, from 355,000 which was in 2019.
